Aggravated Speeding

While speeding tickets are most commonly associated with their petty (non-jailable) form, certain violations of speed limits upon Illinois roads can result in jail time and serious fines.

  • Speeding between 26 – 34 mph is a Class B Misdemeanor with a maximum punishment of 6 months in County Jail and a fine of up to $1500 or a combination of the two.
  • Speeding 35 mph or more is a Class A Misdemeanor with a maximum punishment of 364 days in County Jail and a fine of up to $2500 or a combination of the two.

In addition to criminal penalties, aggravated speeding can have serious consequences against your driver’s license, especially those with a CDL.

It is important to hire an experienced attorney who is well-versed in criminal traffic matters to assist in defending against these charges. Depending on the circumstances, an attorney may be able to successfully defend against the charges or mitigate the penalties imposed.
